See the Grid Earth Project at Work
We are a charity dedicated to saving lives, improving health, and increasing educational and economic opportunities by providing solar powered LED lighting to those in need.
Almost one fourth of the planet lives without access to electricity. Kerosene is one of the most commonly used fuels in homes that have no access to electricity.
Kerosene is dangerous, resulting in 2.5 million deaths per year, mostly children. The major causes of death are respiratory illnesses, burns and aspiration.
Kerosene is also expensive. In areas without electricity a large percentage of each family's income is used to purchase kerosene for household lighting. This expense keeps these families trapped in a perpetual cycle of poverty.
